“Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.”
(Confucius – Chinese teacher, politician, and philosopher, 551 BC-479 BC)

This teenager belongs to a dhobi wallah’s family, I met her a few days ago near Rani ghat along the Ganges where she was helping her brother with some laundry.
She was happy and I found that she was beautiful.
I made several portraits which she enjoyed to see on the screen of my camera.
Today only I realize after watching those pictures on my computer that she had a skin disease covering all her face and body but I decided to remove it and to show her the way my eyes saw her for the first time…

“You are far greater than you have dreamed of being.
And no matter what you are experiencing in your life right now, trust that all is good and unfolding in your best interests.
It may not look pretty, but it is exactly what you need to learn for you to grow into the person you have been destined to become.
Everything occuring in your life has been perfectly orchestrated to inspire your maximal evolution as a human being and bring you into your true power.
Learn from life and allow it to take you where you are meant to go_it has your highest interests in mind.”
(From “Daily Inspiration” by Robin Sharma)

Last morning this little girl was standing along the road from Mughal Sarai to Varanasi (Benaras).
The back lighting was providing that special atmosphere which makes Varanasi so special…

“It is said that no star is a heroine to her makeup artist.”
(Richard Corliss – American journalist)

This is a backstage glimpse from a window into the makeup room before the show of a school in Bhadohi in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh at 45 KM from Varanasi (Benaras).
Several kids wearing gorgeous costums were waiting in line in front of the make-up artist who was changing their features in order to make them play specific characters.
This little girl was getting ready to perfom a traditional dance.
The light was provided by a single bulb from the ceiling in the room and allowed to have make a series of pictures with no editing.

“Don’t ask what the world needs.
Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.”

Those little girls stay at Guria in Varanasi (Benaras) where they are trying to have a normal childhood like any other child in the world.

Guria is a Human Rights organisation fighting against the sexual exploitation of women and children, particularly those forced into prostitution and trafficking.

Manju and her husband Ajeet Singh are running this non-profit organisation at great personal risk, providing shelter and hope to many children and facing many difficulties from all those who would like to use those children as a second generation prostitution.

There are many ways to help and give a kind of support to Guria, this is its website, http://www.guriaindia.org and you may contact Manju and Ajeet at guriaajeet@rediffmail.com

A special dedication to Yasmine Retima a who helped Guria a few months ago after watching pictures from this set on Facebook.

“And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, “Speak to us of Children.”
And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.”
(From “The Prophet” by Khalil Gibran – Lebanese American artist, poet, and writer, 1883–1931)

This picture was shot at sunrise along the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).
It was at that peculiar hour when the holy waters melt in gold and silver.
People then await the day to answer their expectations.
I wonder what would be my expectation of life if I was born there, like this boy who looks any son or daughter of the Eternal city…
