“All colors are the friends of their neighbors and the lovers of their opposites. ”
(Marc Chagall – Russian artist, 1887-1985)

As the heat became unbearable, those ladies came to find an illusion of freshness under the big umbrellas used by the priests staying at Shitla Ghat.
The colours of their sarees and bangles enthralled my camera…

“I know what I have given you.
I do not know what you have received.”
(Antonio Porchia – Italian poet, 1886-1968)

This man is a worshipper of Shiva and stays in an ashram near Raj ghat along the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).
Since a few days it has been very hot in the city but last morning there was a gentle breeze which is a sign of a coming monsoon and this wise man seemed to be enjoying the weather from his balcony…

“To transform the world, we must begin with ourselves; and what is important in beginning with ourselves is the intention.
The intention must be to understand ourselves and not to leave it to others to transform themselves or to bring about a modified change through revolution, either of the left or of the right.
It is important to understand that this is

 our responsibility, yours and mine…”
(Jiddu Krishnamurti)

Those are wood painted cylinders called “jodi”, each is 45 Kg weight.
They are used in twisting rotations by pehlwan during their physical training.
I took this picture in a little akhara which not far from Aurangzeb’s mosque in Kashi, the oldest part of Varanasi (Benaras).

“The oldest living city in the world”.

This is Pritvitraj who is a “pehlwan” (wrestler in Hindi) and a local champion of Girkoraman Kushti trained in a small gym club near Scindia Ghat along river Ganga in Varanasi (Benaras).

I shot this picture at sunrise while the sun is reflecting in river Ganga early in the morning and allows then to have those vivid colors.

“The oldest living city in the world”.

This is a portrait of Pritvitraj who is a local champion of Girkoraman Kushti and trained by a Russian coach.
I shot this picture at sunrise near Scindia Ghat along river Ganga in Varanasi (Benaras).
It belongs to a new topic about wrestlers which I show here with no PP work for a change.
The gym where we did those pictures is facing river Ganga which gave this vivid colours so early in the morning.

When we started the photo session, Pritviraj was posing like a “pehlwan” (wrestler in Hindi) but I wanted candid and natural poses in order to show his true nature which is a mix of shyness and innocence hidden behind the warrior attitude that he usually prefers to show.

“The oldest living city in the world”.

This is a portrait of Vinod who is a “pehlwan” (wrestler in Hindi) who exercises in a small gym club near Scindia Ghat along river Ganga in Varanasi (Benaras).
A few meters down there, Vinod has a little “shop” where he is selling pan, thea, water and sweets.

I shot this image while he was having an Ayurvedic Massage performed by his friend Pritviraj which is part of a pehlwan’s training.
It was early in the morning at sunrise and the sun is reflecting upon the cross he is wearing.
Vinod is Hindu however Christian crosses are actually becoming trendy accessories among the indian youth.
