“Are you looking for gold, friend?
Look around you; anything useful to you is pure gold, pure silver!”
(Mehmet Murat ildan – Turkish author, b.1965)

This picture was shot at Scindia ghat in Varanasi (Benaras).
Two friends were finishing their daily yoga exercises in the river.
It was at dawn when reality is still foggy with a sprinkle of dreams and allows the holy waters of the Ganges to become gold…

“What is magic?
There is the wizard’s explanation… wizards talk about candles, circles, planets, stars, bananas, chants, runes and the importance of having at least four good meals every day.”
(From “Lords and Ladies” by Terry Pratchett)

Sometimes in my enchanted dreams the eternal city is wrapped with a golden coat where fascinating people spread magic along the Ganges.
Some are palmists, others are fortunetellers, ice-cream sellers, sādhus or wizards.
Recently I met one at Shitla ghat, I still have stardust in my eyes…

“Anyone whose goal is ‘something higher’ must expect someday to suffer vertigo.
What is vertigo?
Fear of falling?
No, Vertigo is something other than fear of falling.
It is the voice of the emptiness below us which tempts and lures us, it is the desire to fall, against which, terrified, we defend ourselves.”
(From ” The Unbearable Lightness of Being” by Milan Kundera)

Sometimes daydreaming along the Ganges provides a sensory disorder or a sensation of being off-balance and then a strong desire to fall.
To fall and forget everything, to confide in the holy waters like this young man diving at Scindia ghat in Varanasi (Benaras)…

“Dare to love yourself
as if you were a rainbow
with gold at both ends.”
(From “The River of Winged Dreams” by Aberjhani)

This young man was diving in the river of golden dreams at Scindia ghat in Varanasi (Benaras)…

“The only true voyage, the only bath in the Fountain of Youth, would be not to visit strange lands but to possess other eyes, to see the universe through the eyes of another, of a hundred others, to see the hundred universes that each of them sees, that each of them is; and this we do [with great artists]; with artists like these we do really fly from star to star. ”
(From “The Prisoner and The Fugitive : In search of lost time, vol. 5” by Marcel Proust)

This young man was climbing a pillar which is usually underwater in the Ganges at Scindia ghat.
This architectural element is what is left from the massive palace which used to stand there until the end of the 19th century before the whole structure fell in the holy river.
This picture belongs to a series revolving around my “search of lost time” and of the lost splendour of Varanasi (Benaras)…

“I am a, just like a peach is, just like a fish is.
I have a right to be this way…
I can’t apologize for that, nor can I change it, nor do I want to…
We will never have to be other than who we are in order to be successful…
We realize that we are as ourselves unlimited and our experiences valid.
It is for the rest of the world to recognize this, if they choose.”
(From “The Color Purple” by Alice Walker)

This is a sacred sculpture from Kolkata’s Indian Museum which has a fascinating composition.
It is located in Chowringhee on Jawahar Lal Nehru Road, known as “Jadughar”, and is one of the earliest museums established in the world and considered the largest one in the country.
Sometimes arise mysterious fluids taking different shades of colours, the purle glow leads to the path of dreams…
