“Wake! For the Sun, who scatter’d into flight
The Stars before him from the Field of Night,
Drives Night along with them from Heav’n,
and strikes
The Sultan’s Turret with a Shaft of Light”
(Omar Khayyám – Persian polymath, philosopher, mathematician, astronomer and poet, 1048-1131)

Varanasi taught me to wake up early in order to enjoy the sunrise on the Ganges.
These promises at dawn are an absolute treat for the senses and the Heaven’s connection…

This is a picture of the bank of the Ganges facing Varanasi (Benaras) at dawn.

Settling You In My Soul

“I’ve come to take you with me
even if I must drag you along
But first I must steal your heart
then settle you in my soul.

I’ve come as a spring
to lay beside your blossoms
To feel the glory of happiness
and spread your flowers around

I’ve come to show you off
as the adornment in my house
and elevate you to the heavens
as the prayers of those in love.

I’ve come to take back
the kiss you once stole
Either return it with grace
or i must take it by force

You’re my life
You’re my soul
Please be my last prayer
My heart must hold you forever

From the lowly earth
to the high human soul
There are a lot more
than a thousand stages

Since I’ve taken you along
from town to town
no way will I abandon
you halfway down this road

Though you’re in my hands
Though i can throw you around
like a child and a ball
I’ll always need to chase after you”
(Rumi – Jalāl ad-Dīn Muhammad Rūmī, poet, jurist, theologian, and Sufi mystic, 1207–1273)

In Your Hand

“In oneself lies the whole world and if you know how to look and learn, the door is there and the key is in your hand.
Nobody on earth can give you either the key or the door to open, except yourself.”
( Jiddu Krishnamurti – Indian Theosophist Philosopher, 1895-1986)

This sunset was shot in the country side nearby Etawah in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
There was a strange atmosphere reminding the work of Pieter Bruegel the Elder, the Flemish Renaissance painter known for his landscapes and peasant scenes…

Promise of the Setting Sun

“When pain brings you down, don’t be silly, don’t close your eyes and cry, you just might be in the best position to see the sun shine ”
(Alanis Morissette – Canadian and American singer-songwriter, guitarist and actress, b.1974)

A few hours ago the sun was setting in the sky of Saket in Delhi and I took this simple picture with my new camera (Panasonic DMC-FZ200).
From the terrace where I was standing I could listen to the call to adhan (prayer) from the muezzin of a mosque nearby.
The sun couldn’t be more oriental and in some ways it became full of promise for someone who was sharing this moment with me and is expecting some good news in a few hours…

“The world is a mirror.
We receive from life not what we want but who we are.
There are reasons to our lives and painful times never last.
Trust that the winter of your sorrow will yield to the summer of your joy, just as the brilliant rays of the morning always follow the darkest part of the night”.
(from “Daily Inspiration” by Robin Sharma)

This morning at sunrise a priest was performing Ganga Aarti at Dasaswarmeth ghat along the holy waters of the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).

“Getting up early is a gift you give to yourself.
Few discipline have the power to transform your life as does the habit of early rising.
There is something very special about the first few hours of the morning.
Time seems to slow down and a deep sense of peace fills the air.
Joining the Five o’Clock Club will allow you to start controlling your day rather than letting your day control you.
Winning the “Battle of the Bed” and putting “mind over mattress” by rising early will provide you with at least one quiet hour for yourself during the most crucial part of your day: the beginning.
If spent wisely, the rest of your day will unfold in a wonderful way”.
(From “Daily Inspiration” by Robin Sharma)

At Dasaswarneth ghat a priest is performing Ganga Aarti every morning along the holy waters of the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).
Since many years I was trying to take those pictures but always failed to come in time at this ghat, this season I managed to join the Five o’Clock Club…;)

“The moment I have realized God sitting in the temple of every human body, the moment I stand in reverence before every human being and see God in him – that moment I am free from bondage, everything that binds vanishes, and I am free”.
(Swami Vivekanada – Indian spiritual leader, 1863-1902)

This is one more picture shot at dawn at Dasaswarneth ghat where a priest is performing Ganga Aarti every day along the holy waters of the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).
