No quote with this picture but one simple message:
“Nowadays breast cancer can be cured if it is diagnosed in time”.
Spread the word, you can save lives.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

This picture was shot at sunrise near Assi ghat along the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).
I dreamt that this lady adjusting her sari after taking a bath in the holy waters was receiving pink particles in order to protect her from cancer.
Each year “Pink for October” allows me to make pictures like this.
It is a way to pay a tribute to those many women who are fighting and to those like my mother who are not there anymore.

Pieces of Cloud in  the Sunlight

“This is how I would die into the love I have for you:
As pieces of cloud dissolve in Sunlight.”
(Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Balkhi, known as Jelaluddin Rumi – Persian poet, jurist, theologian, and mystic, 1207–1273)

My friend Anand was rowing a boat on the Ganges, we left Varanasi (Benaras) and we were crossing the river on the way to Ramnagar.

“There are always flowers for those who want to see them.”
(Henri Matisse – French Painter, 1869-1954)

This young man was standing in front of me at the flower market which is in the chowk of Varanasi (Benaras) where I like to come often in order to take portraits.
He was holding jasmine and rose garlands from which I could feel a sweet and fresh fragrance.
He caught my eye as he seemed to be wrapped in his thoughts, the contrast with the noisy crowd of people who gathered closely around us was stricking.
It was as if we were both away for a while.

“I am the sweet fragrance in the earth. I am the heat in the fire, the life in all living beings, and the austerity in the ascetics.”
(Bhagavad Gita)

I met this man at the flower market which is in the chawk of Varanasi (Benaras).
It was one of the hotest day of the year, those kind of days when it becomes painful to stay outside.
I had to go to this part of the city for some work and on the way I enjoyed to stop there where there is an amazing atmosphere, where I can almost forget the heat.
In this courtyard there was a compelling fragrance made of all the flowers scents moisterizing the atmosphere.
This man came nearby, he was carrying many roses in that pink fabric on his head and he was sweating.
The roses fragrance was sweet, deep and heavy, it remained there for a while after he was gone.

Transcendental Journey

“He who knows self as the enjoyer of the honey from the flowers of the senses, ever present within, ruler of time, goes beyond fear.
For this self is supreme!”
(Veda Upanishads)

This man was floating in the holy waters of the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).
He was quiet but apparently his mind was traveling from his body to other places that I don’t know so far…
During summers I see more yogis doing the same, I believe that this spiritual practice helps to bear the heat.

Pertaining to an Ethereal World

Pertaining to an Ethereal World

This is a view that belongs to the hypothetical upper, to the higher regions beyond the earth or beyond the atmosphere; celestial as, ethereal space, ethereal regions.
Those places where anyone visiting Vanarasi (Benaras), “the oldest living city in the world” would easily enjoy no longer to be found.
It was shot along the Ganges from Panchganga ghat at that intangible hour characterized by lightness and insubstantiality, where nothing wants to belong to this world anymore…

“Go, heavenly guest, ethereal messenger.”
Quote by John Milton (1608–1674), English poet.
