L'Harmonie

“Allegories, when well chosen, are like so many tracks of light in a discourse, that make everything about them clear and beautiful”
(Joseph Addison – English poet and statesman, 1672-1719)

L’Harmonie (Harmony) is the left gilded figural sculpture which is crowning the roof of the Opéra Garnier in Paris.
It was made by Charles Guméry (1827-1871), a French sculptor who was working in an academic realist manner and who must have influenced in many ways the kind of poses I like my models to strike.
I took this picture last winter while I was for a few days in Paris.

007 versus 170 000

This week I had 10 000 more viewers on my photostream and I always celebrate this with a picture of me.
I hate to do my self-portrait, it is becoming more and more difficult and I can’t really explain why.
So it was easier to open my photo album and to pick any picture there.
This one is funny, I was a teenager pretending to be 007 at the side of the most famous “Bond girl”…
However this was not shot on the set of Dr No, I was not born at that time (!), but in the begining of the 80’s.

Thank YOU all, you have been 171,918 Flickr viewers, 54 666 Ipernity viewers and 43 394 visitors on my Worpress photo-blog.
I really appreciate your support, kind comments and mails.
Enjoy the end of summer.
Namaste, Salam…

A Seeming Mermaid Steers.

“Her gentlewoman, like the Neriedes,
So many mermaids, tender her i’ the eyes
And made their bends adornings; at the helm
A seeming mermaid steers”.
(William Shakespeare – “Antony and Cleopatra”)

A few days ago this charming and pretty mermaid came to the shore of the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).
It was almost before sunset, it was very hot earlier, I guess she was enjoying the evening breeze.
I was sitting nearby on the stairs of Munsi ghat, I took several shots, she saw me, it seemed that she didn’t mind but she vanished in the holy waters before I had the time to show her the pictures…

The Ganges Mermaid

“Triton: I consider myself a reasonable merman. I set certain rules, and I expect those rules to be obeyed.
Ariel: But dad, I…
Triton: Is it true you rescued a human from drowning?
Ariel: Daddy, I had to…
Triton: Contact between the human world and the mer world is strictly forbidden. Ariel, you know that! Everyone knows that.
Ariel: He would have drowned.
Triton: One less human to worry about.
Ariel: You don’t even know him.
Triton: Know him? I don’t have to know him. They’re all the same! Spineless, savage, harpooning fish-eaters, incapable of any feeling…
Ariel: Daddy, I love him!
Triton: No! Have you lost your senses completely? He’s a human, you’re a mermaid!
Ariel: I don’t care.
Triton: So help me, Ariel, I am going to get through to you; and if this is the only way, so be it!’
(from “The Little Mermaid” -1989)
