“It`s not how old you are, it`s how you are old.”
(Jules Renard – French author, 1864–1910)

This lady came from South India in order to worship the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).
After taking a bath in the holy waters, she was styling her long white hair under the sun.
The quintessence of femininity was visible through her graceful gestures…she was beautiful…

La Celestina Gujarati

La Celestina GujaratiTwo days ago I met this lady in front of a temple in Varanasi (Benaras), she was among a group of other ladies coming from the Indian state of Gujarat.
They were buying bangles and necklaces to some jewel sellers who were standing outside in the street.
I started to take a few pictures of them trying to catch natural expressions but after a short while they kept on asking me to take portraits while posing in a very classic way.
I had to make them laugh in order to get more natural poses and I was showing the result on my camera.
We all had a good time.
I don’t really know why this lady reminded me ‘La Celestina’, which Pablo Picasso painted in 1903.
She looks much better than the lady in the painting.

I am travelling in the north for two weeks, to Armitsar and then to Ladakh, and I might not find internet on my way but as soon as possible I’ll start uploading new pictures.
Thank you all for your many comments and mails, I’ll answer you when I am back to Benaras.
Namaste.
