“All the world is birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much.”
(George Harrison – English musician, singer, songwriter and lead guitarist of the Beatles, 1943–2001)

This is one more portrait of Manish, my brother, in order to celebrate his birthday.
It was shot along the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).

(This year will be smooth and happy like a birthday cake…जन्मदिन मुबारक हो…Janmadina mubarak ho..!!!)

“In a portrait, I’m looking for the silence in somebody.”
(Henri Cartier-Bresson – French photographe, 1908–2004)

Few people know this rare expression on my brother’s face which somehow belongs to his deepest nature…
Let’s pretend that this is an unofficial portrait of Manish where I might have captured the silence in him just for the sake of being able to use Cartier-Bresson’s words…
This was shot during summer while trying sherwanis made in some of our new fabrics at our tailor in Varanasi (Benaras).

“And in the end, it’s not the years in your life that count.
It’s the life in your years”.
(Abraham Lincoln – American President. 1809-1865)

This is a portrait of Manish, my brother, in order to celebrate his birthday.

Those who know him can tell how much life is in his years…

Beyond The Golden Rule

“No man is a true believer unless he desireth for his brother that which he desireth for himself.”
(Azizullah, Hadith 150)

Of course it is pretentious to claim that we are true believers however I think that there are no better words than this quote by Prophet Muhammad in order to explain the relationship that I am sharing with mere bhai (my brother in Hindi).
This universal moral principle is called “The Golden Rule”.
I took this picture of my brother Manish in front of Aurangzeb Mosque where there is a terrace over the Ganges with an amazing view of Varanasi (Benaras).

Like Brother and Brother

04 Like Brother and Brother

All who would win joy, must share it; happiness was born a twin. ~Lord Byron

“We came into the world like brother and brother;
And now let’s go hand in hand, not one before another.”
(William Shakespeare – The Comedy of Errors)

I have no idea if those two guys are twins, cousins or simply friends but they look so much alike.
They were bathing in the holy tank of the Golden Temple of Amritsar, the holiest city in Sikhism, located in the Indian state of Punjab.
I took several pictures and they didn’t mind but I had no chance to talk to them, nor to show them the shots.
The shrine was reflecting in the water, there was so much of happiness mixed with faith all around.
I didn’t post-process the original image.
