“If sensuality were happiness, beasts were happier than men; but human felicity is lodged in the soul, not in the flesh”
(Seneca, Roman philosopher – mid-1st century AD)
This young brahman was bathing in the Ganges at Ahilyabai ghat in Varanasi (Benaras).
He took this unusual pose which reminded me French Neoclassical paintings like “The Turkish Bath” by Ingres.
On he is wearing a sacred thread worn to ward off ill luck.
He is also wearing other sacred threads like this cord which is over the left shoulder hanging down under the right arm.
Those are attributes related to his birth as he is a brahnam.
