Like most of the people in India, this man is drinking chai (tea) in a little bowl made of clay, he was standing near Manikarnika ghat along the Ganges in Varanasi (Benaras).
This is one of the oldest and most sacred ghat in the oldest living city in the world, the place for cremations.
I don’t know him, he seemed to come from the beginnings of time, he had a certain elegance, I felt that he was not here by chance.
Maybe he already knew everything about life and death and this is why he was drinking so peacefully there.
It was cold, it was before sunset in winter and we were nearby the pyre where there were some hot ashes, everything around was there to remember the inevitable destruction of everything in the world…
